Equity Symposium
The State Board of Education will host a Statewide Equity Symposium on Wednesday, October 4 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. State Superintendent Tony Sanders, Ed.D., will be joining equity, diversity, and inclusion experts and school leaders from throughout the state for a virtual event intended to foster peer-to-peer collaboration and equip those in attendance with strategies to transform outcomes for all students.
Keynoting the Symposium will be Gloria Ladson-Billings, Professor Emerita and former Kellner Family Distinguished Chair of Urban Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ladson-Billings is the immediate past-president of the National Academy of Education and author of The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children.

Budget Hearings
School leaders can weigh in on state budget matters as they relate to education spending for FY 2025 at upcoming budget hearings in October. ISBE is welcoming input and testimony from school leaders to inform their advocacy efforts for equitable funding for all Illinois students for the upcoming budget year.
An in-person meeting will take place October 3 in Springfield from 4-7 p.m. Virtual meetings are set for October 5 from 4-7 p.m. and October 30 from 1-4 p.m. Attendees who would like to submit testimony need to do so via ISBE’s online budget request form.
