Back by popular demand, the Illinois Association of School Boards is offering a series of webinars designed especially for new school board members. Waypoint Webinars will accelerate the learning curve for new school board members and offer an opportunity to focus on the road ahead.
The series opens on May 17 and continues through the summer, with five events. All Waypoint Webinars begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be recorded for later on-demand viewing by members.

IASB staff and experienced board members share what they wish they knew in the first year on the board and what resources are available to accelerate learning.

Adventures in Advocacy
The IASB Governmental Relations team will discuss advocating for quality public education and excellence in local school board governance. Gather tools that help lift the collective voices of boards of education.
July 24, 6:30 p.m.
School Board Policy: Navigating the Board’s Role
Join IASB Policy Services to understand the board’s role in maintaining a policy manual and the five policymaking roles: developing, updating, communicating, reviewing, and monitoring.

Budget Time! What New Board Members Need to Know
Join Diane Robertson, a former superintendent and current IASA Field Services Director for a timely look at what new board members need to know about the district budget.
August 23, 6:30 p.m.
Open Meetings Act (OMA): A Deeper Discussion
After the required OMA training, take a deeper dive into agendas, remote participation, public participation, exemptions for school boards to hold closed meetings, and best practices.
