Jeremy Duffy has joined the Illinois Association of School Boards in the role of Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel. Duffy joins the Association’s executive team led by new Executive Director Kimberly Small.

In the role of Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel, Duffy will supply strategic support and counsel to the Executive Director to support the mission and vision of the organization.

Duffy joins IASB from the Illinois State Board of Education, where he served as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel in support of 852 Illinois school districts. Throughout his career, Duffy has worked at private law firms representing the interests of schools and school districts. In his legal practice, he counseled boards of education, district administrators, and staff on a wide range of school-related issues.

Duffy was a member of the Oak Park ESD 97 Board of Education before leaving that post to join ISBE.

Duffy grew up in Galesburg. Prior to becoming an attorney, Duffy was an elementary and middle school teacher in Los Angeles and Chicago. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University, and a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.

IASB's Office of General Counsel (OGC) advises the Association and represents IASB in legal matters, drafts sample policies, and procedures for the Policy Reference Educational Subscription Service (PRESS), and contributes to IASB programs and publications. The OGC provides legal information and resources to IASB members. Because it does not represent boards of education, it cannot provide legal advice to member boards. Member boards seeking specific legal advice should contact their board attorneys directly.
