The Illinois Association of School Boards has added a consultant to the Executive Searches department, and also made changes to the staff of the Governmental Relations (GR) department.

Mary Ellen Buch has moved into a new role with IASB and will serve as a Director of Governmental Relations. Buch brings 20 years of experience in governmental relations through positions in the public utility industry, a private bill tracking service, public education, and the Illinois Association of School Administrators. She joined IASB as an administrative assistant for the GR department in 2016. Buch, who holds bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Cincinnati, will work with boards of education advocating school board issues before the General Assembly.

Barbara Hobrock recently joined IASB as a Director of Governmental Relations and brings another valuable perspective to advocacy efforts. She arrives at IASB from ISBE, where she was a Legislative Affairs and Waivers Coordinator for over four years. Hobrock has served school districts in roles such as PTO president, aide, administrative assistant, and union president. She resides in Beardstown, where she served on the school board from 2017 to 2021. Barbara will graduate from Concordia University Wisconsin in May 2023 with an MBA with a concentration in non-profit fundraising and public administration.

Vic Zimmerman, Ed.D., joins IASB as a member of the Executive Searches team. Prior to IASB, Zimmerman served students and families in schools and districts for 35 years in roles that included teacher, coach, school and district administrator, and consultant. He served as superintendent at Monticello CUSD 25 for 15 years and St. Joseph-Ogden CHSD 305 for four years. Zimmerman received a bachelor’s degree, and both his master’s and doctorate degrees, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He also will continue to serve as a Field Services Director with the Illinois Association of School Administrators, mentoring and coaching newer school superintendents.
