IASB Offers New Toolkit for Board Presidents
The new IASB Board Presidents’ Toolkit offers information and insight into the responsibilities of the school board president. The Toolkit offers resources to help lead effective meetings, including information on parliamentary procedure, OMA exemptions, seating new members and organizing the board, a meeting checklist, and sample scripts to guide the board president in successful meetings.
Updates Posted to IASB Constitution and Position Statements
The IASB Constitution and Position Statements have been updated to reflect the votes of Association members during the 2023 Delegate Assembly. Positions taken at the Delegate Assembly and the Association’s Advocacy Core Values guide the IASB advocacy agenda and ensure a strong, collective voice on the highest priority issues of its members.
Full and updated texts of the IASB Constitution and Position Statements are available online. IASB will mail printed versions of this document to member districts in early 2024. Two new Position Statements were added in 2023:

IASB Holiday Office Calendar
IASB offices in Springfield and Lombard will be closed for the holidays at the conclusion of the business day on Friday, December 22, 2023 and reopen on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. The Illinois Association of School Boards wishes you and yours all the best, and may the New Year bring continued collaboration and innovation on behalf of the public school students in Illinois.

5.17 SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER FUNDING
The Illinois Association of School Boards shall request that the Illinois legislature consider legislation providing educational funding to all school districts to offset the cost of a school resource officer. (Adopted 2023)
5.18 BUS DRIVER REGULATIONS
The Illinois Association of School Boards shall support changes to the Federal and State school transportation regulations that return licensing requirements and driver trainer liability back to pre-February 2023 levels at minimum; allow LOCAL training and testing for bus driver candidates; and increase the transportation reimbursement rate from the State of Illinois to 100%. (Adopted 2023)
