Organizing the Board

State law requires each school board to hold an organizational meeting following the consolidated election held in odd-numbered years. Organizing the Board describes the legal requirements and process for efficiently seating new board members and organizing the school board.

The board of education’s organizational meeting must be held in open session, and the school board must seat new members, administer the Oath of Office, elect officers, and set a time and place for regular meetings.
