The 2025 Illinois Report Card, released on October 30, shows “new heights in high school graduation rate” in Illinois, along with graduation rate gaps narrowed, continued student growth, student absenteeism declined for third year in a row, and Illinois continued to attract new teachers in record numbers.

Student growth in both English Language Arts (ELA) and math continues to outpace pre-pandemic levels, with the most significant gains in ELA.

Local data with interactive graphs and visualizations, state-level trend data, and student growth percentiles are available on the ISBE Report Card webpage. ISBE’s release notes and other resources for understanding the Illinois Report Card are also available.

“The academic achievement data from the 2024-25 school year shows that Illinois has some of the best schools in the country and stands as a testament to the hard work and ambition of our students, the skill and dedication of our educators, and the support and partnership of parents and families across the state,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders in an ISBE Press Release. “These historic gains show that a focus on equity and evidence-based practices and strong investment in public schools yields positive outcomes for all students and communities. Illinois schools are not only preparing students to graduate but also to thrive in college, career, and life."

New this year are the assessment at high school (ACT), growth in high school, and new aligned performance levels for all general ELA, math, and science assessments. Board members are encouraged to visit the ISBE October “Rundown” to learn more about these changes. Resources for sharing your district’s story are available on ISBE’s Report Card homepage, under Resources.

Another resource for discerning how the 2025 changes will reflect in your district’s Report Card is available. The IASB webinar New Standards for Student Proficiency: What Board Members Should Knowfeaturing John Gatta, Ph.D. of the ECRA Group, was presented on October 16 and the recording is available to members at the link above or through IASB’s Online Learning page, select the “Recordings” tab.
