Two meetings of the IASB Board of Directors in November coincided with the IASB • IASA • IASBO Joint Annual Conference in Chicago and the election of officers at the IASB Delegate Assembly.
Regular business at the first meeting on Thursday, November 20, consisted of approving the final audit report and a quarterly budget report, approving the annual board self-evaluation results report, and reviewing governance policies. Additionally, the Board reviewed and approved an amendment to the Lake Division Bylaws and established a new Awards Committee and Legislative Committee.
Reviewing progress on the strategic areas of focus with the Board, Executive Director Kimberly Small, J.D., noted district outreach, progress on state advocacy goals, the implementation of technology, and member retention. The Board also discussed seeking support from the Consortium of State School Boards Association (COSSBA) for continued federal funding of evidence-based research and data collection to further support board accountability measures and student outcomes.
A second, reorganizational meeting was held on Sunday, November 23, following the election of President Tracie Sayre (Triopia CUSD 27) and Vice President Alva Kreutzer (THSD 214). Mark Harms (Flanagan-Cornell USD 74) is now seated as the Immediate Past President.
Members of the Board welcomed new Egyptian Division Director Schannone Steinberger (Frankfort CUSD 168) and North Cook Division Director Bill Harrison (Wheeling CCSD 21).
Outgoing Immediate Past President Simon Kampwerth Jr. (Peru ESD 124) was recognized for his IASB Board service since 2011 as Director of the Starved Rock Division and officer.
Board reorganization included the election of the treasurer and the Executive Committee.
