Care of Students with Diabetes

The Care of Students with Diabetes Act (Act) contains many requirements for Illinois school districts regarding the care of diabetic students. In their continuing commitment to help school districts and special education cooperatives, the Ill. Council of School Attorneys and IASB prepared the documents described below to help districts and cooperatives comply with the Act.

These documents include:

  2. Sample procedures for the care of students with diabetes (Revised January 2017)

  3. Letter to ISBE and other state agencies requesting guidance 2016

  4. IDPH and ISBE response to request for guidance 2016

  5. P.A. 96-1485 Care of Students with Diabetes Act

The material provides a starting place for school districts and cooperatives to develop their own procedures. Districts should review their plans and procedures with their own attorneys.
