IASB is recognizing 53 Illinois public school districts and their boards which have earned honors for their governance practices.

The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges boards that learn and practice effective governance behaviors as identified in IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. The focus is on full board development and participation.

School Board Governance Recognition is a two-year award. In 2025, 42 boards of education were presented the award, which they hold until Summer 2027, when they may apply again.

The following 53 school boards will retain School Board Governance Recognition through Summer 2028. The school boards will be honored at upcoming Division Meetings and acknowledged at the Joint Annual Conference this November.
