A digest of state laws affecting Illinois public schools enacted in 2026
This publication is a summary of new laws which impact K-12 education and were passed during the 2026 Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly. IASB has compiled these public acts to allow local school officials an opportunity to review the actions of the General Assembly and the Governor during this legislative session, alert school leaders and public-school advocates to changes in existing laws, and to give school boards adequate time to prepare for new laws. If additional bills are passed during veto session or any special session in 2026, those will be included in an addendum to this publication.
The IASB Government Relations staff has made every effort to identify which new acts to include, however, one or more acts may have escaped our attention. Please note the synopsis of each act is brief and may or may not encompass the full content or impact of the Act. The summaries are designed to call attention to statutory changes and additions that may merit further research.
