IASB has added a new workshop to its in-district offerings: The T.E.A.M. Communication Styles® workshop explores why people behave as they do, how style differences can cause unintended conflict, and how to develop a roadmap for better communication.

Led by an IASB Director certified in T.E.A.M Communication Styles facilitation, this workshop helps school board/superintendent teams strengthen communication, collaboration, and team dynamics. Using the T.E.A.M. Communication Styles assessment, participants gain insight into their individual communication preferences — building a foundation for better decision-making, conflict management, and trust.

Using T.E.A.M. Communications Styles can “reveal hidden causes of workplace conflicts, why some people are difficult to work with, and simple and powerful strategies for effective communication.” The workshop will help you “defuse conflicts and find a path forward, learn new ways to connect with people you find challenging, and build stronger teams and improved collaboration.” T.E.A.M. Communication Styles teaches “more about your own style, how it’s viewed by others, and what you can do to bridge gaps.”

The T.E.A.M. Communication Styles workshop is a type of Board Self-Evaluation. The Illinois Open Meetings Act allows boards to meet in closed session for the purpose of board self-evaluation when meeting with a representative of a statewide association of which the public body is a member. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(16).
