At its first quarterly meeting of the new fiscal year, the IASB Board of Directors focused on preparations for the Joint Annual Conference and Delegate Assembly while advancing the Association's long-term strategic priorities.
The board reviewed implementation of the FY27 budget, which was approved at its June meeting. The budget supports continued investment in enhancements to the Joint Annual Conference, including safety measures, as well as initiatives that form the basis of IASB’s next strategic plan.
During a presentation from safety consultants, members of the board received an overview of emergency preparedness and attendee safety planning for the Joint Annual Conference, which will be held November 20-22 in downtown Chicago.
The board also reviewed and adopted the Strategic Plan 2027-2032. Key initiatives include enhancing members' digital technology experience and strengthening advocacy efforts. The plan also advances a member engagement strategy tailored to different district types and board member interests and roles, while maintaining the Association's regional division meeting and governance structures.
In other business, the board reviewed policies related to board committees and multi-year financial planning. Rules governing the Delegate Assembly on November 21 were also approved, and the rules of the Resolutions Committee were ratified.
Other reports included updates from the Resolutions Committee’s August meeting, Association resources and support available to non-incumbent candidates seeking election to local school boards at the next consolidated election, board member participation in national professional development activities, Joint Annual Conference registration trends and planned enhancements, and legislative developments, including an E-rate program and IASB’s participation on a mandate reduction council.
The next meetings of the IASB Board of Directors will be held November 19 and 22 in conjunction with the Joint Annual Conference. Approved minutes from IASB Board of Directors meetings will be made available to members on the IASB website.
