The New School Laws publication for 2026 is now available. The resource includes a summary of 70 new laws that impact K-12 education passed during the 2026 Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly.

New School Laws is intended to allow school board members an opportunity to review the actions of the Illinois legislature and the Governor, alert local school leaders to new laws, and provide adequate time for districts to prepare for changes to existing law.

Summaries for each new public act are organized under subject matter categories shown in the Table of Contents. The new laws can be identified by title, bill number, or the public act number. Each entry includes a brief synopsis of the act, Senate and House sponsors, the final vote in both chambers, and the effective date.

If additional bills are passed during veto session or any special session in 2026, those will be included in an addendum to the current publication.
