AI Governance in Education: From Board Governance to District Implementation

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming education, creating new opportunities as well as new governance responsibilities for school boards and district leaders. Gary Fasules and Patrick Allen will explore how boards can provide effective oversight while ensuring AI supports teaching, learning, and student success.

They will examine the relationship between the IASB Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, the IASB AI Board Policy, and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Artificial Intelligence Guidance, giving the audience a  clear understanding of how these resources work together to support responsible AI implementation. The session will conclude with practical next steps for preparing districts to implement AI responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with their mission, values, and student outcomes.
