The National School Boards Association maintains an Employment Records Retention Requirement Summary Guide (updated July 2010).
This document summarizes the federal retention requirements for various documents relating to employment including information on the governing statute and/or regulation, and which employers are covered.
Records summarized include those pertaining to recruitment, selection, retention, termination, compensation, benefit plans, exposure to toxic substances drug and alcohol testing, discrimination, leave, and polygraph testing.
