IASB Publishes Fifteenth Edition of Illinois School Law Book Answering Legal Questions of Educators and Layman May 9, 2018
SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Association of School Boards has published an updated Fifteenth Edition of its top-selling book, the Illinois School Law Survey.
The book, updated bi-annually, is the most convenient way to access and cross-reference most school law issues, and is available in both print and digital versions. Its question-and-answer format allows readers to find answers to the most commonly-asked questions facing or posed by school superintendents, principals, school boards, and the general public.
The Survey presents answers to more than 1,600 questions based on legislation and court decisions as of January 1, 2018, and administrative rules and regulations current as of December 15, 2017.
Reflecting extensive changes in the laws governing Illinois public schools, the Fifteenth Edition presents answers to new questions; contains extensive revisions to questions and answers in response to changes in state and federal laws; and reflects the impact of new court cases relevant to school law.
The book has several other key features that enable readers to find what they need quickly:
- A Table of Contents lists the broad topics covered in each chapter. In many cases, these topic headings lead directly to the desired information.
- A Quick Reference Index provides an extensive listing of subjects of more narrow focus, arranged alphabetically.
- A Table of Court Cases arranges all court decisions cited in the book in alphabetical order by plaintiff’s name.
A unique code to register for online access to a digital version of the book is included with each printed book purchase. This online format includes entire text of the book’s 27 chapters along with links to easily navigate from the Table of Cases or Index to relevant questions. The digital version also contains links to statutes, regulations, court decisions, and more.
The publication is authored by Brian A. Braun, an attorney with the firm of Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd., since 1983. Prior to that, he was an IASB staff attorney and a language arts teacher in suburban Chicago.
Braun has lectured on school law and labor relations at Illinois colleges and universities and has served both the National Council of School Attorneys as a director and the Illinois Council of School Attorneys as chairman.
