The Illinois Association of School Boards will host a series of livestream webinars designed for all candidates and potential candidates for local school boards in the April 1, 2025 election.
The four “How to Navigate Running for School Board” events will be open to IASB members and to the public; no membership or log-in is required.
Recording: How to Navigate Running for School Board Part 1: Petition Circulation
Join IASB staff along with Attorneys Scott Uhler and Jason Guisinger from Klein, Thorpe & Jenkins, Ltd., in a discussion about the election process, important dates and deadlines, and obligations for candidates and board secretaries.
Part 2: The Statement of Economic Interests
October 17 at Noon
Join Attorneys Heather Brickman and Benjamin Shaw from Hodges, Loizzi, Eisenhammer, Rodick & Kohn for important information regarding the Statement of Economic Interests, its content, and its obligations for candidates.
Part 3: Petition Filing
November 14 at Noon
Join IASB staff along with Attorney Jason Guisinger from Klein, Thorpe & Jenkins, Ltd., to discuss candidate petitions; how, when, and what to file; and navigating the objection process. Also learn about election obligations such as public policy questions.
Part 4: Understanding the Board Member's Role
December 5 at Noon
So, you want to be a school board member? This webinar is designed to provide school board candidates with an overview of an elected school board member’s roles and responsibilities and an idea of what to expect if they are successful in the April election.
Each installment of the “How to Navigate Running for School Board” livestreams will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing after the live event. All candidates are encouraged to visit IASB’s School Board Elections page to view legal references, information, including key dates, on the next consolidated election, insights into the functions and responsibilities of boards of education, and Qualifications and Characteristics of a School Board Member.
