Teachers in Proviso THSD 209, based in Maywood, have gone on strike, according to a March 3 posting to the district website. The district’s schools will be closed on March 4; March 7 is a scheduled school holiday.
The district presented an offer to the teachers union on March 1, increasing its salary proposal to 9% over three years (3% each year). Further negotiations with a federal mediator are planned for March 7 and 9.
“We want a fair multi-year contract that compensates our teachers fairly and competitively for their work, while operating within the financial means of our District,” said a message to parents and students from Board President Rodney Alexander.
A previously announced strike date of February 18 was postponed. The district’s offers were posted by the Illinois Education Labor Relations Review Board on February 3.
Negotiations continue in Gen Geo Patton SD 133 in Riverdale, with a possible strike date of March 8; and Champaign CUSD 4, for which offers were posted by IELRB on March 4.
