The Illinois Association of School Boards has joined a new national alliance of state school boards associations as a founding member.

The Consortium of State School Boards Associations (COSSBA) is a national, non-partisan organization dedicated to sharing resources and information to support, promote, and strengthen state school boards associations as they serve their local school districts, boards of education, and school board members.

As a founding member of COSSBA, IASB is part of the development and decision-making of the new organization’s governance structure. The first meeting of the transitional governing board will take place in April.

The Consortium will focus on providing networking opportunities for local school board members, tracking of and advocating for federal education and judicial issues, and providing professional development for state association officers and leadership.

IASB members were notified via email on March 10 of the Association’s involvement in COSSBA. Membership in the Consortium will provide IASB member boards of education access to national services and programming that is currently under development. Information about 2022-2023 events is forthcoming.

The Illinois Association of School Boards had previously suspended payment of dues to the National School Boards Association for 2021-2022. In November 2021, the IASB board of directors officially terminated membership with the organization.
