School leaders in Illinois and throughout the country are encouraged to participate in Public Schools Week 2022 from February 21-25. This is an opportunity for educators, parents, school board members, and communities to share stories and highlight the successes happening in local public schools.

This year’s theme, “Creating safe, equitable, and engaging public schools,” covers the many challenges faced by school districts, students, and educators over the past year: According to the Learning First Alliance (LFA), the group that spearheads annual Public Schools Week, the goal for the 2022 event is “to show the public at large what is happening in public schools, how we are responding to the pandemic and any ensuring crisis, and the lessons we are learning that will help make K-12 education stronger in the future.”

LFA has resources to assist public school advocates with telling their stories during the honorary week. A social media toolkit, several events, and numerous images and graphics can be found on the 2022 Public Schools Week website to help with outreach efforts.

Groups and individuals wanting to join the conversation on social media can utilize #PublicSchoolProud and #PSW22. Illinois school leaders who share success stories can tag “Illinois Association of School Boards” on Facebook or include @ILschoolboards in Tweets about Public Schools Week 2022.
