Advance Illinois, an independent education policy organization, has released the 2022 edition of its biannual publication.

“The State We’re In 2022: A Look at the Impact of COVID-19 on Education in Illinois” outlines “the effect this unprecedented global event has had on Illinois learners” and includes subtopics of academic outcomes, enrollment, equitable access to instruction, and support for student well-being.

“Of special concern,” says the report’s introduction, “is the fact that impact has not been experienced evenly, but has laid bare and exacerbated existing inequities across lines of race, income, and educational need. While our full understanding of the pandemic’s impact on children and students is necessarily incomplete, the data reported here begins to shine a light on the work ahead.”

The report typically includes national comparisons, but this installment focuses on Illinois data, citing “ongoing data challenges locally and nationally.”
