After a two-week strike, students at Proviso THSD 209 returned to their classrooms on March 28. The contract agreement was reached on March 23, during the district’s spring break. The Proviso Teachers Union voted to approve the deal on March 30 and board of education is set to approve the contract on April 12. The new contract includes a 3% raise for teachers each year over the three years of the contract, plus annual $500 bonuses. Another point of discussion was the school-day schedule. The contract includes an eight-period schedule for the 2022-2023 academic year.
A four-day strike by teachers in Gen Geo Patton SD 133 in Riverdale ended on March 14. The four-year contract reportedly includes 5% annual raises.
The Champaign CUSD 4 teachers union, which had set a strike date of April 4, reached a tentative agreement with the district on March 30. Details of the contract will be made available upon ratification. Negotiations included salary and scheduling. The union is set to vote April 5 on the contract, followed by board approval.
Negotiations and mediation sessions continue in Township HSD 211 (Palatine), where teachers voted in late March to authorize a strike if there is no agreement by June 30, when the current contract expires. District 211 has 800 teachers and serves 12,000 students in five high schools in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
