On September 3, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker amended his Executive Order extending the date of compliance for all school personnel to receive the COVID-19 vaccine or submit to at least weekly testing.
The new date for compliance is September 19, 2021.
The mandate, which went into effect August 26, raised questions from school districts about implementation in order to meet the original September 5 deadline. The State Board of Education is expected to update joint guidance with the Illinois Department of Public Health to support the order.
In a message to members IASB Executive Director Tom Bertrand shared the Association’s participation in conversations with the Governor’s office leading up to change.
The EO does not require districts to provide the mechanism for school district employees and volunteers to be tested. A list of testing sites is available on the IDPH website.

“Today, Governor JB Pritzker announced an amended Executive Order that grants school personnel two additional weeks to comply with the vaccination mandate. While many districts are assisting personnel with access to testing and vaccinations to meet the requirements, it is ultimately the employee’s responsibility to comply.”
