Deadline for School Board Governance Recognition Applications is August 1

The deadline for boards of education to submit completed applications for this year’s honor is August 1. The application process includes a submission guidelines and tips document and a preview of the application that can be downloaded and printed.
Changes have been made to the Governance Recognition criteria this year. The updated School Board Governance Recognition Program will allow boards to showcase how good governance is making a positive impact for students, staff, and the district community. A portion of the application now allows for districts to tell their story about programs and projects that are improving outcomes within their schools. It also offers an opportunity to highlight how continuous learning, both by individual board members and the full board team, has resulted in improved governance for the district school board.
Boards may apply for recognition every two years. This year’s recognition will cover the period from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021. A School Board Governance Recognition Committee reviews applications and notifies district school boards that have earned the recognition status. Recipients will be honored at their Fall Division Meeting and in the IASB Info Center at the Joint Annual Conference in November.
