IASB will offer eight workshop topics designed to equip school board members with the knowledge and skills to provide effective board leadership. One full-day and seven half-day Pre-Conference Workshops will be held in conjunction with the 2021 Joint Annual Conference on Friday, November 19.

The full-day course will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes Professional Development Leadership Training (PDLT) and Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) Training. This course satisfies a portion of the state’s mandated training requirements (minus Open Meetings Act training) for Illinois school board members.

Half-day courses starting at 9 a.m. Friday morning include
  • Bridging What Divides Us
  • The Trust Edge Experience
  • Leading Leaders: The Job of the Board President
  • Advocacy in Action

Half-day afternoon sessions beginning at 12:30 p.m. include
  • Bridging What Divides Us (repeat of a.m. course)
  • Equity: An Educational Imperative
  • Setting District Goals and Direction
  • The Basics of Governance

The cost of these professional development opportunities is $280 for the full-day course, $140 for each half-day workshop. Attendees can mix and match a half-day morning and afternoon workshop to create a full day of training. Onsite registration will be accepted on Friday morning, November 19 if space is available. The cost of onsite registration for the full-day workshop is $330; $190 for half-day workshops.

Attendees must be registered for the Joint Annual Conference to attend Pre-Conference Workshops. Workshop fees include materials and breakfast and/or lunch depending on the start time and length of the workshop.

Course descriptions, presenters, and registration details are available on the Joint Annual Conference webpage.
