The Board of Education for West Harvey-Dixmoor SD 147 is in negotiations with its teachers union. The parties have been meeting for over a year to in hopes of extending the prior agreement, which expired June 2020.
The district’s proposal includes salary increases of 3% for 2020-2021 and 2.5% for 2021-2022, maintaining health insurance benefits. The offer from the West Harvey Federation of Teachers Council, AFT Local 604 includes 5% salary increases and 0.62% increase to the board-paid health insurance contribution for teachers. Negotiations also include retirement benefits, tuition reimbursement/educational enhancement salary increases, professional excellence bonus, and internal substitution, extra-duty, and summer school payments.
The board’s offer and statement, posted March 24 with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board (IELRB), states “While we value our educational partners and desire to provide them with fair and adequate compensation for the service that they provide to the community’s children, the compensation and benefit levels that are provided must be fiscally sustainable for the District as it navigates an uncertain financial landscape.”
West Harvey-Dixmoor SD 147 is an elementary district that educates approximately 900 students in three schools with 60 teachers. It serves a 99% low-income population.
