Bond, Tax Referendums, Other Questions on March 17 Ballot

School districts in Illinois are seeking voter approval for referendums and other propositions on local ballots in the March 17 primary election. Items up for vote include tax increases, bond issues, advisory propositions, and countywide sales tax proposals in Vermillion and Marion counties. At the time of publication, the election was scheuled as usual. 

School districts known to be placing local bond issues on the ballot include:
  • Barrington CUSD 220, $147 for funds for renovating instructional spaces, restrooms, and food service areas.
  • Beach Park CCSD 3, $23 million to improve the sites, safety and security of, alter, repair, and equip five buildings in the district
  • Berkeley SD 87, $105 million bond proposition to build and equip a new middle school building and update other school buildings
  • East Dubuque Unit SD 119, $10.5 million to alter, repair, and equip the junior and senior high building
  • Elmwood Park CUSD 401, $55 million to repair and renovate two buildings in the district
  • El Paso Gridley CUSD 11, $20 million to build a new school in Gridley
  • Glenview CCSD 34, $119 million bond issue to add classrooms, update fire suppression systems, and increase ADA compliance.
  • Greenview CUSD 200, $3.5 million in school building bonds to improve school sites
  • Illini West HSD 307, $17 million bond proposal to build a new high school
  • Illini Central CUSD 189, $4 million in bonds for facility additions, including school office, flexible classroom space, collaborative commons, fitness facility, and gymnasium
  • Lake Villa CCSD 41, $30.7 million to alter, repair, and equip four buildings within the district
  • LeRoy CUSD 2, $8.3 million for an addition to the elementary school to be used as an auditorium
  • Komarek SD 94, $20.8 million to build and equip additions to the existing Komarek school
  • Maroa-Forsyth CUSD 2, $33 million to build and equip a new middle school, demolish the old middle school, and update the high school
  • New Berlin CUSD 16, a $39.5 million proposal to build and equip a new junior/senior high school building, and repair, renovate, and abate asbestos at the current junior/senior high school building
  • Patoka CUSD 100, $6.18 million to build and equip a gymnasium
  • Reavis THSD 220, a $45 million proposition to construct, improve, renovate, alter, repair and replace portions of the high school building
  • Rosemont ESD 78, $40 bond proposal to build and equip a new school building
  • Schiller Park SD 81, $30 million bond proposal to build and equip a new building to replace the Washington Elementary School building
  • School District 45, DuPage County, $30 million to build and equip a new early childhood center
  • Williamsville CUSD 15, $40 million to build and equip additions to the high school, junior high school, and an elementary school
School districts with tax rate increases on the upcoming ballot include:
  • Fox Lake Grade SD 114
  • Oswego CUSD 308
  • Peotone CUSD 207U
  • Quincy SD 172
Countywide sales tax proposals to benefit schools are on the ballot in Vermilion and Marion counties. Since the state law took effect in January 2008, 56 counties have adopted the retailer occupation and service occupation tax (sales tax) for the benefit of school facilities.

Knoxville CUSD 202 has two non-binding advisory questions on the March 17 ballot. One is about out-of-district tuition waivers for the children of district teachers, the other on the installation of artificial turf for a football field.
Voters in McHenry County can weigh in on the advisory question, “Should the McHenry County Board pursue a new structure of the office of McHenry County Regional Superintendent of Schools, or enter into an agreement with another Regional Office of Education to share its services?”
