Governance Recognition Program Deadline is August 1

The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges local boards of education that practice effective governance behaviors, as outlined by IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. The focus of Governance Recognition is on full board development and participation, rather than individual board member accomplishments.

The deadline for boards of education to submit completed applications for 2020 is August 1. The application process includes a “submission guidelines and tips” document and a preview of the application that can be downloaded and printed. For 2020 applicants, additional guidelines offer flexibilities for school districts for which the coronavirus emergency is impacting the ability to fulfill the submission requirements.

Boards may apply for recognition every two years. A School Board Governance Recognition committee reviews applications and notifies district school boards that have earned the recognition; districts will be honored at fall events. View past winners here.
