Federal Legislative Report 116-17 provides a CARES Act funds update. As referenced in Federal Legislative Report 116-16, a provision was included to allow districts to choose to only spend CARES Act funds on low income students to avoid the U.S. Department of Education provision requiring funds used for all students to also be available to all private school students.  However, there is significant concern that documentation of those separate expenditures will never meet the approval of the USDE.

Please see Federal Legislative Report 116-17 for links the letter to Secretary Betsy DeVos, letter to Congressional leaders, and talking points and consider submitting comments regarding this proposal.

The full report also covers unemployment insurance legislation and Illinois-specific guidance, and the White House announcement on school reopening.
