Deadline to File Economic Interest Statements Approaches
Date PostedJuly 28, 2020
The deadline is approaching for Illinois school board members to file the Statement of Economic Interests.
The Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A-105) requires school board members and certain school district employees to annually file a Statement of Economic Interests. Under normal circumstances, May 1 was the day to file the required form with the county clerk.
The date was extended to August 17 by emergency amendments to the Illinois Administrative Code because of the coronavirus emergency. The filing requirement deadline was suspended for the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation, plus 30 days. This emergency amendment is in place for a maximum of 150 days from March 20, 2020, unless renewed. August 17, 2020, is the 150-day point. As of this publication, it has not been renewed.
The forms are available from county clerks and at the Illinois Secretary of State website.
Candidates for school board seats are also required to file the form; details for candidates for 2021 school board elections will be published when available.
