Filing for School Board Candidates is December 14-21
Date PostedDecember 10, 2020
Candidates running for school board in the April 6, 2021 election need to turn in their signed nominating petitions to the county clerk’s office or the county board of election commissioners between December 14 and 21.
In addition to nominating petitions, school board candidates must file a statement of candidacy and the receipt for their Statement of Economic Interests with the county clerk (or county board of election commissioners). Note that the Cook County Clerk website lists additional petition filing locations for candidates.
Prospective school board candidates began circulating nominating petitions on September 22. These forms must include signatures from at least 50 qualified voters, or 10% of the voters residing within the district, whichever is fewer.
Other dates regarding school board elections include the last date to file objections to nominating petitions (December 29), last day to file a withdrawal of candidacy form (January 28), and final day to file a declaration of intent as a write-in candidate (February 4).
Additional information and resources for school board candidates is available on the IASB elections webpage.
