IASB’s School Board Elections page offers links, information, and resources, including the 2021 Candidate’s Guide, issued in July by the Illinois State Board of Elections. This guide provides information for candidates seeking office at the local level in 2021. It includes filing dates and requirements for filing, as well as links to the appropriate petition forms. The first day to circulate nominating petitions is Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Nearly 6,000 individuals serve on local public school boards in Illinois, governing the education of nearly 2 million public school students. School board members are elected by their local communities during a consolidated election and serve four-year terms.
