Update on strikes and negotiations
Date PostedNovember 9, 2019
Teaching assistants in Decatur SD 61 are working after a three-day strike in early November affected approximately 500 special education students. No contract agreement has been reached. With negotiations centering on health insurance costs, a session with a federal mediator is scheduled for November 21.
Springfield SD 186 and its teachers union have reportedly reached an agreement, just days after a no-vote was taken. Negotiations included salary, school safety, and class size. The previous contract between the district and its teachers had expired in August; the new contract is expected to be voted on next week.
