Update on strikes and negotiations

Classes will resume after a strike by Grayslake Comm Cons SD 46 was resolved after one missed day of school. The strike began November 7 and was reportedly resolved the next day, which was a scheduled non-attendance day. The agreement between the school district and teachers and staff will include salary increases. Terms will be published upon ratification. The elementary district educates 3,700 students in Grayslake and surrounding villages of Lake Villa, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Park, Round Lake, Hainesville, and Third Lake.

Teaching assistants in Decatur SD 61 are working after a three-day strike in early November affected approximately 500 special education students. No contract agreement has been reached. With negotiations centering on health insurance costs, a session with a federal mediator is scheduled for November 21.

Springfield SD 186 and its teachers union have reportedly reached an agreement, just days after a no-vote was taken. Negotiations included salary, school safety, and class size. The previous contract between the district and its teachers had expired in August; the new contract is expected to be voted on next week.
