2014 IASB JOINT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Ronald E. Everett Distinguished Service Award

Everett Award presented to Concordia’s Schilling

Craig Schilling, associate professor of educational leadership at Concordia University in Chicago, was recognized during the second general session of the IASB/IASA/IASBO Joint Annual Conference as this year’s Ronald E. Everett Distinguished Service Award winner.

The award, presented by the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (Illinois ASBO), honors “diligence, superior performance and service to the school business public.” It was originated to distinguish the 24 years of service that Everett gave to Illinois ASBO as executive director.

“We don’t often get recognized and it is particularly nice to be recognized by your peers,” Schilling said. “Anything I have achieved is in large part because of my father. He taught me [that] we are all teachers.”

Schilling was praised for his knowledge of the financial needs of Illinois school districts. He spent 20 years as a school business manager in three districts, including Marquardt School District 15, Rich Township HSD 227 and Glenbrook HSD 225, where he served for 15 years.

“It’s the highest compliment I could receive,” he continued. “Ron Everett’s real legacy is that he elevated the status of the profession and Illinois ASBO in Illinois. I think we both considered service to the profession a ‘calling’.”

An Illinois ASBO member since 1979, Craig served as association president (1994-1995) and previously received the Lighthouse Award for his role in the formation of a Delegate Advisory Assembly. Other career highlights include implementing a comprehensive wellness program at Glenbrook and the development of an innovative MBA/CSBO program at Concordia University to offer doctorate studies to school business officials.
