Breakout Option #1: Make Right, Act Right, and Do Right by all Students

Safeguarding equality in all areas of the public education system promotes optimal opportunities and access for all students to achieve their full potential. Exhibition of full potential by all students positively impacts district performance, but it even more contributes to student intellectual development, self-identity, and mental as well as and physical wellness. Featured presenter, Sheila Caldwell, Ed.D. (Vice President of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Chief Diversity Officer for the Southern Illinois University System in Springfield) will share insight on diversity, equity, and inclusion that presents theory, rationales, courses of action, and resources supporting the necessity of providing an equitable educational system. Following the presentation, a question-answer period between the presenter and attendees will occur (as time permits).

Breakout Option #2: Legal and Legislative Updates

Challenges and changing needs tend to shift the legal and legislative landscape of education. Court rulings and laws can solidify the status quo of policies and practices, overhaul standard approaches, and/or introduce new expectations within education. IASB Assistant General Counsel Maryam Brotine will share both legal perspective and updated rulings that stand to impact school operations. IASB Governmental Relations will share a host of education topics receiving legislative attention, along with pending and final outcomes of legislation. Following the presentation, a question-answer period between the presenters and attendees will occur (as time permits).
