The Illinois Association of School Boards is seeking applicants for a full-time specialist in the Office of General Counsel/Policy Services department in IASB’s Springfield office. The position will report to the IASB Director of Policy Services.
The specialist position will be responsible for initiating and performing functions required for the efficient operation of an office and to support the Policy Services team in providing exiting and new services for IASB members.
Functions of the job include ensuring accuracy in school policy manuals and updates in a timely manner by creating and maintaining current, organized, and accurate written procedures and electronic and paper files relating to job tasks, duties, and areas of responsibility. Word processing school board policy and administrative procedures manuals, edits, and updates; ensure all phone calls, emails, and other communications are handled in an efficient and courteous manner; maintain accurate calendars in Microsoft Outlook; attend periodic meetings both in and out of the office for continuos imporovement; participate in professional development offerings; and attend the Joint Annual Conference in Chicago each year to perform assigned duties.
A high school diploma or equivalent and evidence of relevant administrative support experience is required. Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Word and web-based HTML word processing applications.

Required competencies include knowledge of current Microsoft Office Professional Suite with an emphasis on word processing and Excel is required. For Microsoft word processing, skills are required to: create and use Auto Text and to run macros; work with advanced styles, formatting, tables, link management, pagination, and page references; proficiency in columns, tables, alignment, footers, headers, footnotes, endnotes, and cross references; manage and track document changes with multiple users using highlights and comments; and ability to word process in web-based HTML editors and knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro. The position requires excellent grammar, organization abilities, and verbal and written communication skills, as well as the interpersonal skills necessary to work with Association members and other staff effectively in a team environment.
This position requires the employee to be able to lift, move, and safely handle boxes and materials up to 25 pounds; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and to be able to see, hear, and speak as necessary to perform the functions of the position.
