Policy Services-Policy Consultant, Lombard

The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) is seeking applicants for a full-time policy consultant in the IASB Lombard office. The position includes both in-office and in-the-field responsibilities regarding the development, management, delivery, marketing, and continuous improvement of existing and new policy services for IASB members.
Functions of the job include facilitating meetings with school board members and school administration in school districts throughout Illinois to consult and develop local school board policy manual customizations and administrative procedures manuals and to provide other policy services. Other duties include demonstrating technology based policy services as requested for individual school boards and at the IASB Annual Conference, workshops, and division meetings; participating in the marketing of policy services; developing and delivering presentations on school board policy and governance as requested for individual school boards and at the Annual Conference, workshops, and division meetings; and supervising any assigned support staff.
Requirements for the position include a Bachelor’s Degree; school board service, demonstrated project management experience, and/or a law degree is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work with member district officials and other staff effectively in a team environment is essential, as is the ability to work with diverse groups. Strong communication, project management, attention to detail, public speaking, and grammar skills, and the ability to self-start and work without close supervision are required.
Knowledge of current Microsoft Office Professional Suite with a heavy emphasis on word processing and Excel is required. For Microsoft word processing, skills are required to: create and use Auto Text and to run macros; work with advanced styles, formatting, pagination, link management, and page references; proficiency in columns, tables, alignment, footers, headers, footnotes, endnotes, and cross references; manage and track document changes with multiple users using highlights and comments; and ability to word process in web-based HTML editors with knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
This position requires frequent travel within the state and may require overnight accommodations. Some evening and weekend work is expected.
