MEMBER SERVICES

Tools: Print | Email

Welcome to the Web site of the Illinois Association of School Boards. This is where school board members go to school for the knowledge, skills and resources to become effective school leaders.

This site has been designed to help school board members, school administrators and staff, and other school leaders locate information, publications and services offered by IASB. The website is also accessible by the public, press and anyone else who wants to learn more about school board service and school governance.

Since its inception in 1913, IASB has a long and proud tradition of serving public school leaders. Today, 98 percent of Illinois public school districts are members of the Association. Our service to these districts and nearly 6,000 elected school board members is what IASB is all about.

The vision of the Illinois Association of School Boards is excellence in local school governance supporting quality public education. Read more about our Vision and Mission Statement. In our effort to fulfill that vision and mission, IASB staff has adopted Staff Standards, or in other words, what our members have a right to expect from us.

Many member services are provided at central and regional sites statewide, but they can also be tailored for delivery to individual districts and boards. Among the services IASB provides:

Field Services
IASB Field Services is the "heart" of the Association. Assigned to 21 geographic regions or "divisions," each member district is served by one of six field service directors who are dedicated to working with individual school boards and school board members.

Field Service Directors are the primary staff contacts responsible for assuring that member district needs are met by the Association. From division meetings to custom workshops and board self evaluations in their home districts, contact your IASB Field Services Staff to learn more about these choices.

Among the services provided by IASB Field Service Directors are:

More information is also available in the Field Services Catalog. To find out which IASB Field Service Director serves your area or district, consult our IASB Divisions Map.

Governmental Relations
As the "voice of school boards," IASB represents the local lay leaders of education in pursuing adequate and equitable school funding and other IASB Beliefs established by the membership.

Much of the Association's direct lobbying of state government is carried out through the Illinois Statewide School Management Alliance, a coalition consisting of four state organizations involved in school management. The Association also has an active Delegate Assembly, in which member districts propose and vote on resolutions that help establish the Association's stand on public policy issues. Advocacy tools and publications include the following:
