As the "voice of school boards," IASB represents the local lay leaders of education in pursuing adequate and equitable school funding and other beliefs established by the membership.

Much of the Association's direct lobbying of state government is carried out through the Illinois Statewide School Management Alliance, a coalition consisting of four organizations:
