Every Student Succeeds Act reauthorizes and amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act

After years of waiting, No Child Left Behind has been replaced by legislation more favorable to local school governance. The legislation is known as Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The National School Boards Association (NSBA) produced helpful publications titled ESSA Transition Timetable and Frequently Asked Questions: A Local School Board Primer and ESSA Implementation Guide. More information is available at the NSBA Resource Page.

The U.S. Department of Education also published transition guidance for states and school districts on Feb. 26, 2016 titled Transitioning to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Frequently Asked Questions. In addition, a Jan. 28 letter from the U.S. Department of Education discussing the transition remains available.
